Focus GroupThe Focus Group project is lead by Rick Roberts. Its aim is to stimulate creativity resulting in each participant creating a panel of six 8" x 10" prints on a given theme which will be discussed in future meetings. Firstly the idea of Focus Groups is NOT about competitions or prises. It IS about learning to see. We rarely get speakers who tell us the THOUGHT processes behind the taking of their pictures and I think as photographers we need this. The “Focus Groups” idea is to enable individual photographers to appreciate that there is more than one way to “think” about taking a picture. If we “individually” go out to photograph our set subject then you can bet not all the ideas will be the same and on the group evening you will see many ways of looking at the set subject. This, hopefully, will open you up to new ideas and increase your photographic seeing eye. It is nothing to do with cameras or pressing the shutter, it is all about seeing different possibilities and learning from our peers. The themes are fairly ambiguous for this reason. A lot of people have said the themes are too hard and in some cases uninspiring. GOOD, if that is that case to accomplish your task you will have to think about it that is what it is all about. The current theme topic is SHELTER. Were are only having one topic this time. This is the fourth project for which the the prints should be ready for TBA. Prints should not exceed 8" x 10" (20 x 25mm) and do not need to be mounted.
